PASSAGE INTO THE LAND OF THE SPIRIT BEAR: GREAT BEAR RAINFOREST AND THE SOUTHERN INSIDE PASSAGE:
Late Summer 2010

On the west coast of British Columbia, nestled between high alpine reaches and the Pacific Ocean, lies a thin band of temperate rainforest. In this lush forest stand 1,000 year old cedar trees and 90 meter tall Sitka spruce. This area is home to thousands of species of plants, birds and animals. Rich salmon streams weave through valley bottoms that provide food for magnificent creatures such as orcas, eagles, brown, black and the rare white Kermode, or Spirit bears. We will spend several days exploring this area before continuing down the coastline and into the protected waters east of Vancouver Island to Friday Harbor, WA

JUNEAU TO PETERSBURG
PETERSBURG TO JUNEAU
Essentially wild, Southeast Alaska remains one of the few places still largely unpopulated and unspoiled, where old-growth forest, majestic high peaks, glaciers, endless bays, rivers and islands all wait to be explored. The sea and shore teems with life. Playful Dall porpoises, humpback and orca whales abound, eagles and bear are seen in their natural habitat—the best way to appreciate Alaska.

PETERSBURG TO CRAIG
CRAIG TO PETERSBURG
This cruise offers a diverse experience of Southeast Alaska, from fishing towns to limestone caves, to wilderness solitude, through island narrows to open ocean.
PETERSBURG TO WRANGELL
This trip focuses on the areas that are contiguous to Frederick Sound. Frederick Sound separates the Alaskan mainland, with its mountains and glaciers, from Admiralty Island, which is known as the "Fortress of the Brown Bear". The Sound itself is the summer home for the largest concentration of Humpback whales in Alaska.

By beginning and ending this trip in the smaller towns of Petersburg and Wrangell we are able to avoid the cruise ship generated chaos of Juneau or Ketchikan.
GLACIER BAY SPRINGTIME EMERGENCE: JUNEAU TO JUNEAU
Ten Day Voyage: Beginning and ending in Juneau: May 2010

Imagine Glacier Bay as John Muir saw it in 1899, as a member of the legendary Harriman Expedition - without the cruise ships, the guidebooks, and interpretive signs that define the modern visitor's experience. Aboard the Catalyst, our 76-foot vintage wooden boat, we'll have the chance to see this spectacular glacier and fjord landscape in much the same way that Harriman's scientists did.
INSIDE PASSAGE
Southern Inside Passage: Voyage of Discovery
Northbound: Friday Harbor WA to Ketchikan AK
Southbound: Ketchikan, AK to Friday Harbor WA

Up and down the coast of British Columbia from San Juan Island to Ketchikan, Alaska. Opportunity to explore and learn to navigate the inlets, islands, bays, channels and waterways of the Pacific Northwest. View First Nation villages and towns. Discover the stillness and movement of wilderness and the challenge of crossing ocean straits. Enjoy the wonders of the rocketing tides, rapids and narrows of some of the world's fastest water as mentioned in National Geographic's August 2006 article on WHERE CURRENTS COLLIDE.
A VOYAGE TO THE YOSEMITE OF THE NORTH:
PRINCESS LOUISA INLET

Friday Harbor to Friday Harbor: Whole Boat Charter in the fall 2010-Contact us to arrange

Many travelers describe magnificent Princess Louisa Inlet as the most beautiful place on Earth. It is also known as the "Yosemite of the North".
MISTY FJORDS NATIONAL MONUMENT WILDERNESS: 2010
Misty Fjords National Monument was created December 1, 1978, and covers 2,294,343 acres of Tongass National Forest in the panhandle of southeast Alaska. This unique fjord land is accessed only by water and air and crisscrossed with hundreds of swift-running streams, rivers and waterfalls, where five species of salmon follow unseen trails to the unspoiled waters of their birth.
ISLAND REFLECTIONS: SAN JUAN & GULF ISLANDS
Explorations on foot and by kayak make up this enchanting Northwest adventure. Enjoy watching marine mammals and Orca whales feeding in these plankton-rich waters. Look for eagles, otters, mink, and deer while hiking the lush forest trails. Relax aboard the Catalyst while watching the brilliant sunset and enjoying the company of others and a delicious dinner.

Boat available for mothership kayaking,  short three day or longer trips, as well as one day party excursions September through April depending on boat maintenance and previous commitments.

FRIDAY HARBOR TO VICTORIA
November 27- 29; December 4-6 and December 11-13, 2009

These voyages are three day, two night round trips from Friday Harbor to Victoria, BC. We will depart from Friday Harbor at noon of Friday and sail to Victoria’s Inner Harbor, mooring directly in front of the majestic Empress Hotel. We will depart Victoria at noon on Sunday; thus allowing us Friday night, all day Saturday and Sunday morning to explore Victoria’s museums, galleries and shops. There will be time to arrange for side trips to Buchart Gardens, the Imax, or just stroll through the seasonally decorated streets of the downtown area, enjoying the diverse dining and shopping opportunities found in this amazingly international city. Pacific Catalyst provides the boat transportation between Friday Harbor and Victoria, lunch on Friday and Sunday, and breakfast on Saturday and Sunday.
