COOKING AND KAYAKING:
EXPLORE NATURE AND COOKING TOGETHER IN THE BREATHTAKING BEAUTY OF THE SAN JUAN ISLANDS ABOARD OUR 75 FOOT HISTORIC VESSEL - M/V CATALYST
Enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the fall in the San Juan Islands: In the early morning with a cup of coffee, sit on the deck of our historic wooden vessel relishing the peace. Choose between various special interest cooking classes in the morning. Take a hike on an island trail or a kayak paddle along the protected waterways. Relax and be refreshed in the rhythms of the sea. Delight in a late afternoon class on preparing a delicious dinner menu, learning new cooking techniques or perfecting older ones. Relish a rich glass of wine, the delectable food, and pleasant companions while drinking in the sunset over the ever changing play of light on the water.
Four day, three night excursion exploring the San Juan Islands: Watch bald eagles soar overhead, observe porpoise and other sea life at close range, hike on forested islands, relax on deck after a perfect day, while learning new recipes and culinary tips in this intimate marine setting with our excellent CATALYST chef, Anne Catherine Kruger.
Anne Catherine has been playing with food since she was three years old and living aboard boats since she was six. She loves the feeling of community aboard a ship and being the one responsible for keeping its passengers happy and full as it travels from port to port. She holds a BS in Physics from UNC and a Grand Diplome in Cuisine and Pastry from Le Cordon Bleu-Paris.
Morning special interest classes focusing on breads, desserts, appetizers:
Suggested:
-Breads: French Baguettes, Foccacia, Three-Seed Rolls
-Choux Pastry, Sweet and Savory: Chocolate Èclairs, Whipped Cream and Fresh Fruit Filled Puffs, Cucumber and Red Onion Puffs with Various Fillings
-Pies: Caramelized Walnut and Apple Pie with Flaky Crust, Three-Berry Pie with Almond Short Crust
Later afternoon classes focusing on dinner:
Suggested meals:
-Cabernet and Black Pepper Marinated Beef Tenderloin with Mushroom Jus and Roasted Potatoes
-Prawn and Asparagus Risotto with Caesar Salad
-Fish Veracruzana
-Chicken Cacciatore with fresh pasta ribbons.
Breakfast and Lunches would be included of course, but
not part of the classes.
Itinerary through the islands flows with the tides, weather, desires of the guests, and the expertise of the Captain.
$1500 per person, includes a berth, food and beverages, culinary classes, and guided kayaking, hiking and fishing for the table
(must purchase WA fishing license before coming aboard).
