On behalf of my family and the rest of the crew of the "Catalyst" I would like to welcome you!
One of our greatest joys is to share both our wonderful vessel and our passion for the intricate waterways of the Pacific Northwest. I hope that you will take the time to wander through our web-site, and then will continue on to become our shipmates in a water-borne adventure. There is not a day when underway that I am not moved to tears by the literally breathtaking beauty of our cruising grounds. Our quiet vessel, that so ably invokes an earlier time, drifts among icebergs. Through narrow fiords that are fresh from the glaciers gouge. We cruise beside forests of impossible greens, all the while exploring deep, clear-jade waters that team with life. There is always something to hold our senses captive! The colors are unbelievable, the sounds rich and varied, and the smell of air freshly distilled from sea and forest is unforgettable. This is the place of "once in a lifetimes". We look forward to having you aboard! Until we sail, Captain Bill Bailey |

| ROAMING THE WILDER PLACES | ||
| From tiny island habitats...to sparkling glacial fjords...to verdant temperate rainforests...diverse ecosystems mark the Pacific Northwest.
Woven together by an intricate network of waterways, the myriad islands and imposing coastal mainland form a natural wonderland, inviting exploration and adventure.
Pacific Catalyst expeditions to the wild Southeast reveal a world of dramatic landscapes. The largest old-growth forest in the nation, the Tongass, carpets more than a thousand off-shore islands. High peaks tower majestically near perpetual ice fields just miles from shore. Thousands of miles of rivers and streams tumble down mountains and out from beneath glaciers. |
The highest densities of brown bears and bald eagles in the world are found here. Wolves, foxes, martens, beavers and even moose also make this pristine wilderness their home.
The sea teems with life not often seen elsewhere. Humpback and orca whales abound, and playful Dall porpoises delight in games with visiting vessels. The roaring of sea lions can be heard for miles. Beneath the tides, every square inch is packed with colorful and bizarre creatures. Our primary area of focus, Southeast Alaska, is essentially wild. It remains one of the few places in North America still largely unpopulated and unspoiled. Inaccessible to most, the wonders of this vast wilderness are brought closely to hand for Pacific Catalyst voyagers. Here, where no roads intrude, dreams - of floating in misty fjords with orca spouting off the bow, or paddling in sheltered coves while bear watch from the shore, or soaking in idyllic hotsprings nestled in virgin forest - are made reality. |
